Credo; Credo Mobile Phone; Credo Progressive Smart Phone Offer;  We've noticed a progressive phone company called "Credo" that's trying its best to pull nut jobs progressives into their phone web.  The idea is to use Credo phones and save the world for Barack Obama and kill off the Tea Party, I guess.  Do you need a Obama Phone from Credo?  It seems that they might count on Harry Reid type brains out there to just buy the Progressive hard left line and sign up for a Credo phone?

First off, there's a reason Credo Mobile only mentioned AT&T and Verizon's political donations in its letter. Credo Mobile uses Sprint's network, and Sprint has donated a lot of money to Republicans ... apparently, more than it has to Democrats.  So it looks like Credo Phones gives a whole lot of money to Republicans and the Tea Party movement.  Why would Credo Phone leave out that they give piles of cash to Republicans?

Second, according to Credo's history page, it only donates "1 percent of your charges." So if you get the most basic plan for an Android phone that it offers on its website, that's a whopping 69 cents per month. I could do better than that by scrounging for loose change.  Credo makes it sound like they're saving the Progressive World but, most likely not.
Maybe a wolf in sheep's clothing

Looking at Credo Mobile's political victories page, one might get the impression that it caused every one of those "victories" by itself. For the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," for instance, it goes on about how bad DADT was and then says "We fought long and hard for these soldiers." By doing what, donating 69 cents per month and reminding subscribers to phone their congresspersons?

I'm not saying it's bad that they did that. I'm saying that if I wanted to start a profit-making business, the goal of which was to get progressives to buy from it just because they were progressive, it'd look a lot like Credo Mobile. It'd give a bit of support to progressive causes, then claim to be almost an activist group, tooting its horn long and hard about everything it did. And its ads would demonize its competitors, while glossing over the unpleasant realities of its own business.

The Upshot

If you don't mind their lackluster smartphones, you could probably do worse than Credo Mobile. Their rates look pretty competitive. Just keep in mind what you're paying for ... a subpar smartphone, and warm fuzzies.

Personally, I'd rather stick with my AT&T family plan, and then donate more than $1 a month to the activist group of my choice. At least, until my contract runs out.
