IF Americans are lucky, that broadcast will never take place except as an admittedly imaginary account. But it could be true! According to official Government reports on the effectiveness of the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki nearly five years ago, the fictitious chain of events described by our fictitious announcer could happen here!

So-called experts deride the suggestion that Russia could, in the near future, launch a successful atomic attack against this country. We hope they are correct. But, it’s difficult to forget that these same experts said Japan couldn’t last more than six months in a war against the U. S. and that Russia’s army would fold before the Wehrmacht. Other scientific experts also predicted that the Soviets could not possibly develop the atomic bomb before another five years. Well, look what happened!

Now, these same experts want us to believe that while Russia may have one or two bombs, she couldn’t possibly have enough with which to attack us. But Dr. J. Robert Oppenheimer, one of the world’s foremost atomic scientists, said that a country could produce 1000 atomic bombs in two years by an all-out effort. The Russians have been working on the atom for longer than that!

We hope the Russians are not prepared to launch an atomic war against the United States. We hope they have no intention of ever doing so. But let’s play it smart this time and assume that the Reds have as many bombs as we have, and the means to deliver them to targets in America. What then?

In quest of the answer, government authorities in the field of atomic warfare were queried. Here’s the picture they painted.

We dropped two atom bombs on Japan— one each on Hiroshima and Nagasaki—on August 6 and 8, 1945, causing terrific destruction. Hiroshima, a city of 343,000— about the same population as Denver or Rochester- was practically wiped off the .map. The official death toll was 78,150—one out of every four persons was killed! Nagasaki, with a population of 253,000, had a fatality list with close to 40,000 names on it equivalent to the total population of, let’s say, Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Already, the type of bombs used on these cities has been outmoded. So, just imagine how much destruction could be wrought on heavily-populated American cities by the more destructive bombs developed in the intervening five years!

What would happen if just one bomb were dropped on the Capitol building in Washington, D. C, keeping in mind that devastation elsewhere would be even greater than in this “city of magnificent distances.”

Practically every building within a half-mile radius would be completely destroyed. Steel frames might be left standing but their walls would be stripped off by the mighty puff. Save in a few cases of exceptionally good construction, roofs and ceilings would collapse from the blast pressure and bury everybody inside. And remember, we’re assuming that only one bomb would be dropped!

Within this same half-mile radius, any living creature directly exposed to the blast would be killed immediately. Contrary to common belief, most immediate deaths would not come from radio-activity but from burns. A policeman standing on the Mall, 2000 feet from the explosion near the Capitol, would be fatally burned by the immense heat radiated by the bomb during the first split second.

Some of the Congressmen at the Capitol would die of ruptured internal organs. Those not killed immediately by flash burns or blast injuries might well perish beneath falling walls or in fires breaking out from damaged wiring and broken gas lines. At Hiroshima, only 15 in 100 deaths came from radiation sickness the great majority might have been caused by any ordinary bombing. However, many other persons in this half-mile radius who escaped death initially, would probably die a few days later from radiation sickness.

In the area a half-mile to a mile from the explosion, most buildings would still receive major damage. The White House, much of which was built more than a century ago, would be smashed with the exception of the newly constructed East Wing.

In this area, deaths would taper off somewhat. Many of those exposed to radioactivity without shielding would become severely ill and then die. But some people would escape harm completely. The chances? About 50-50.

In the great swath a mile to a mile and a half from the explosion, damage would taper off still more. Modern buildings would remain standing but would require extensive repairs.

Deaths would be reduced but many would perish in the fires enveloping damaged structures and from injuries received in their collapse.

Beyond a mile and a half, death and damage would continue their toll although in lessening degree. Two miles away, the well-built structures would survive although flimsy buildings would suffer heavily. Even the Pentagon Building, three miles from the Capitol, would lose many of its windows.

Four miles from the center of the blast, there’d be almost no destruction and no injuries—only a memory of a muffled groundshaking rumble.

In other target cities, the effects would be similar. Relief and rescue work would be hampered in all places by blocked streets, broken water mains, failure of electric power and general panic. Medical supplies would be critically short, particularly unguents for burns. Hospital facilities would be completely inadequate, especially considering the fact that many units would be destroyed by the bomb itself. Remember that at Hiroshima nine-tenths of the doctors and nurses were casualties because hospitals were located in the center of town.

What would be the Russian plan of attack? Well, current American strategic plans are based upon the ability of the B-36 to deliver the bomb to Russian targets. The bulk and difficulties in handling the bombs would probably rule out the use of Fifth Columnists, submarines or guided missiles. So, the Russian bombs would probably be delivered by suicide bombers carrying . enough gas for a one-way trip or by super-bombers which could make the return trip. Word has leaked out of Russia that a new super-bomber has been produced there so that might very well be the vehicle of attack. Could they reach American target cities from their trans-Polar bases undetected? That depends upon many factors. Congress has appropriated funds for the beginnings of a protective radar net. Such a net, however, is like a chain—only as strong as its weakest link. To be completely effective, it must be all-inclusive, with stations in Canada and Mexico and on ships at sea. This is a tremendously expensive setup.

To take advantage of such a warning system we would need thousands of fighter aircraft and a well-planned system of civilian defense including specially built shelters. These facilities do not exist at present. Planes flying over Canada now would cross thousands of miles of wilderness where the few inhabitants would have little idea of whether they were Russian bombers or Hottentot airliners. And, if the planes carried standard U. S. Air Force markings indicating that they were experimental types, even the Air Force might be fooled temporarily.

Aside from the material damage, what would be the probable outcome of such an attack? Well, first of all, the nation would be paralyzed by shock for a short while. The wounds would be so great, there would be a tremendous job to do merely in overcoming the first stunning effects of the surprise attack.

If most responsible members of our Government were wiped out, there’d be the question of who would assume responsibility. Probably a few members of Congress, who had happened to escape death because of absence from Washington, would set up an emergency government, even though they lacked constitutional authority. Or, high-ranking military officers might form a junta to rule dictatorially.

Of course, the 50 states would still exist and exert their individual authorities but their governors would have no federal authority. However, they might even meet and set up an emergency government.

Surviving military officers would have to thrash out the problem of who was to take command. Only after all this was accomplished could retaliation be started—unless earlier orders had been issued providing for action in case such an attack took place.

Could Russia actually carry out a physical invasion? Not immediately. First of all, she lacks ships to carry her armies for her merchant marine is not big enough for the job. As for aerial invasion, probably not even the United States with its tremendous industrial establishment could produce and keep in the air the tremendous number of planes needed for this. So, it would boil down to a war of waiting—waiting for an eventual invasion or waiting for more atom bombs.

Would we be defeated? We might. Possibly we would not recover quickly enough from the first sneak bombings and follow-up attacks to be able to prevent the Red armies from taking over Western Europe. This loss would mean isolation for the United States. And European shipping in Russian hands might bring invasion forces later.

But it is more likely that we would still be able to reassemble our forces and stage an effective war. Even all the factories in such cities as Cleveland would not be totally destroyed by atomic bombing. And in those factories badly damaged, the machinery could probably be put back in operation after repairs. Our defense forces would still remain intact for the most part. We might even be able to rush enough help to save part of Western Europe. In any event, if defeat is averted, there’d be a long stalemate with years of misery and anxiety for the whole world.

Can we prevent it? A well-planned system of defense might do it. With a good warning system our own fighter planes could shoot down a large part of the attacking bombers. The same warning system, coupled with adequate civilian defenses, might avert as much as 80 per cent of the casualties. Dispersion of our industrial resources—removing them from vulnerable centers—would cut down on initial losses, too.

We can also keep building better planes to carry the bomb and more and better bombs. But, let’s not fool ourselves. The best defense against atomic destruction is peace. And peace comes only with real international understanding—something that has to be worked at consistently. True, everybody must work toward the same goal—Russia as well as the United States. But the organization which can be used to insure peace—the United Nations —is there, all set up and waiting for a chance to be allowed to prove itself.

No longer can we assume that Hiroshima won’t happen to us. It can! It might!

The woman was invited as a speaker as Barack Obama was giving another compensated speech to support the new president Hillary Rodham Clinton.  CNN tried to hide the truth but millions of people had learned about the wicked past of Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary Clinton and this public event was to cure some of the damage caused by historical facts.  Hillary was elected but the nation was divided as  millions of people didn't know the Hillary and Bill Clinton factual stories until Donald Trump crossed that line and remained strong during the long election cycle. 

The grieving woman's husband had been killed, by Islamic Radical Muslim Jihadists only last year, and he was considered by the media ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC and even FOX News a national symbol fighting the Islamic Radical menace that spread across the world.  Thousands of innocent Americans were being killed now every year and each incident pointed to some Muslim Mosque in and outside of America. 

The speaker Barack Obama introduced the woman, the hero's widow and the crowd stood to honor her as Barack Obama stated the national promise, we will never forget.  

There was shouting and clapping and the t.v. crews drew closer to show the woman's tears and Barack Obama continued to speak into the microphone.  Some would say that a three hundred thousand dollar speech fee paid by the Clinton Foundation and the DNC was taking advantage of supporters, but that would wait for another day.

Trying to calm herself as tears slid freely down her face the woman grabbed the presidents arm which took the Secret Service by total surprise.  Suddenly president Barack Obama was not the protected leader and x-president as the mother of three children grabbed him with a mourner's force.  Without any noise the plain clothed soldiers moved closer to the x-president Barack Obama as the Secret Service quickly nudged around the president. 

The crying was up close and personal now as Barack Obama tried to pull away gently at first to gain some distance from the palpable despair of the widow.  The grieving woman's strength increased as the Secret Service pried the president away from her and like a human bulldozer pushed her back to create a safe space for the president.

Suddenly the sharp and crisp sound that security professionals trained for but never truly expected, it was that sharp crisp rapport from a 9 millimeter pistol that only a soldier could carry or conceal.  After all the new Hillary Clinton national gun confiscation and gun control laws were meant to keep weapons out of the hands of regular people.  The widow knew a lot about small weapons as her Army husband had taught her over the years.  

Nobody knew how the widow got a loaded gun inside the hall let alone past the Secret Service and the FBI agents surrounding Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.  One could only guess that being shy toward the widow would bring about many career endings if not death as weapons were pulled and shots being fired. 

The dignitaries jumped away as the Secret Service jumped forward like birds suddenly becoming airborne at the slightest hint of danger.  You could hear the shooting of rifles from outside as a small dark man pushed through the crowd and jumped up on the stage as shots were heard now inside and outside the high school hall.  The mayor of Chicago assured Washington D.C. that every step required for presidential security had been taken and the Secret Service and FBI had signed off on the security plan.  

The mayor of Chicago was watching his t.v. and the special event sponsored by ABC now based in Castro's Cuba for tax reasons as the dens of Islamic Jihadists sprung from the crowds with guns and knives on live t.v.

The dark man, with his remarkably deep voice for his size, yelled Allahu Akbar as Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and Michelle Obama ducked behind furniture on the stage as the deafening shots continued.  

All at once American t.v. viewers, by the millions, stopped thinking about the dysentery and malaria spreading across the United States, brought to America by the millions of illegal aliens from Mexico and Central America.  They didn't want to hear from the big man on stage as Barack Obama allowed hundreds of thousands of Syrians to migrate to America regardless of their Congress and laws. 

The viewers forgot about crime, drunkenness, prostitution, social unrest, vice, poverty and mental pathology as the Islamic Killers took the main stage as Secret Service agents and FBI agents returned fire and bodies were jumping for cover but others were falling to their deaths.

The viewers had hoped that the accused rapist Bill Clinton would never be seen on a national stage again but there he was ducked behind a leather chair on stage. They watched him help Hillary Clinton become president and it was only Donald Trump that brought the truth to the public.   CNN tried to hide the truth but millions of people had learned about the wicked past of Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary Clinton.

What the people inside the high school hall didn't know is that Islamic Radical Jihadist and closed all the roads within a two mile radius of the school and the water, electricity and even the sewage had been turned off by the Muslim radicals.

The fire escape lights, weak battery operated lights provided the half light that now filled the hall which made the gun blasts look like hot streaks of lighting running sideways all over the giant hall.

The x-president Barack Obama was quick to find and use the right path away from the danger as Secret Service agents pushed him through several doors, running every step.  

Michelle Obama learned the hard way after tripping and falling that the green safe place was designed for presidents and not their spouses in extreme emergencies.  In correct proportion Secret Service agents protected president Hillary Clinton and x-president Barack Obama as Michelle Obama and Bill Clinton at times were of less interest.

There would be no room for Bill Clinton or Michelle Obama in the military vehicles running and ready outside and behind the high school hall.  

There was a lot of confusion outside of Independence Hall, the name of the high school hall where people had gathered by invitation to hear the new President Hillary Rodham Clinton and the x-president Barack Obama amid the unrest in America.

Unable to run anymore Hillary Clinton stumbled and was half way carried to the military vehicle running and waiting and the drumming of shots were heard all around.

Treading on Barack Obama's dream.  Barack Obama was forced to strike out against the terrorist in Syria by pushy Russian President Vladimir Putin as the Communist war machine - killing terrorists and so-called Islamic Tribal friends of the United States.  

Barack Obama, after months of doing nothing, dropped paper flyers over oil transportation trucks and Islamic Radical drivers working for ISIS ISIL that have been supplying terrorist oil to supporters for much needed cash.  

After almost two years of nothing, dropping some printed flyers on the tankers, the U.S. Military destroyed a couple of hundred oil transport tractors and trailers, about time.  

Barack Obama and John Kerry has allowed the terrorists to transport black market oil to shadow buyers for years now.  This oil was used to purchase arms and ammunition that has been killing thousands of people, Barack never attends his security NSA meetings. 

These trucks and drivers should have been destroyed.  Now imagine Barack Obama bombing the Iranian Nuclear Weapons facility, how many full color brochures would that take?  You wonder why Israel is scared with Barack covering their back?

Next time Barack, skip the flyers.

Accelerating its attacks on one of the Islamic State’s most important sources of income, the U.S. military said Monday it destroyed 283 tanker trucks used by the militants to transport oil from producing fields in eastern Syria to smuggling points.

The attack by four A-10 attack planes and two AC-130 gunships was carried out Saturday at a site near Deir el-Zour and al-Hasakah but not reported until Monday. It followed a similar assault on Nov. 15 that destroyed 116 tanker trucks and is part of a broader air campaign, dubbed Operation Tidal Wave II, designed to cripple the militants’ oil producing, refining and distribution system. The U.S. has said oil provides about half the group’s total income.

On Thursday, President Barack Obama declared in an interview that ISIS had been "contained," asserting that the terror cell had been stalled in Iraq and Syria.

The next day, ISIS claimed responsibility for one of the worst terror attacks in European history, shattering what had been a growing sense of momentum in the global fight against extremists and driving home the frightening ability of ISIS to inspire and possibly coordinate attacks outside their power base in Iraq and in Syria.

"We, including the President, have said from beginning the fight against ISIL would be long and have both good and bad days," according to a senior administration official pressed to explain the disconnect between Obama's comments and the spectacular set of coordinated attacks that stunned Europe and killed more than 120 people out on a Paris Friday night.

It is not yet clear who exactly perpetrated the Paris attacks, but the French government has blamed ISIS and U.S. officials have said there is no reason to doubt that assertion.

The stated goal of the U.S. had been to decapitate ISIS, but the group, claiming credit for the attacks in Paris, has shown that containment and decapitation clearly don't work against an organization that courts death and is atomized to the point individuals or small groups can act largely on their own. ISIS has quickly matured during the Obama administration from a group the President once called al Qaeda's "JV team" to a terrifying threat to the West. It's a threat the U.S. and Europe clearly do not yet fully understand.

Before the attack, Obama spoke reassuringly about the growth of ISIS in the MIddle East, suggesting that while the terror group had not been beaten, it had been controlled.

"We have not yet been able to ... completely decapitate their command and control structures," he told ABC News. But he touted success in "trying to reduce the flow of foreign fighters."

The administration says when he declared ISIS contained, Obama was speaking only about efforts to help Iraqi and Kurdish forces and U.S. bombing efforts in Syria.

Recent wins against the group seemed to back up Obama's assertion: Kurdish forces retook Sinjar Mountain in Iraq with the help of U.S. airpower late this week. A drone strike announced late Thursday is suspected to have killed "Jihadi John," the ISIS executioner, a symbolic victory after Americans and others were killed on camera and used in propaganda videos. And overall, ISIS' capture of ground has slowed.

"It means exactly what he said," the senior administration official said, referring to the President's containment comments. "Their (ISIS) momentum in terms of territorial gains in Iraq and Syria has been contained/halted."

Even before Obama's "contained" comment regarding ISIS in Iraq and Syria, the group's influence beyond those countries' borders was on full display with attacks connected to ISIS-related groups in Beirut and the downing of a Russian passenger plane in Sinai.

The Paris attack further throws U.S. and Western counterterror efforts on their head. A White House official told CNN that before departing for a trip to Turkey and Asia and a G20 Summit, the President will "convene his National Security Council to review the latest intelligence surrounding the attacks in Paris."

U.S. officials have deferred to the French investigation.

"At this early stage, we have seen nothing that contradicts President Hollande's assessment of the situation," according to a senior U.S. intelligence official, referring to the French casting blame on ISIS.

"This is a French counterterrorism investigation and we are working with French officials to provide any assistance they may need," according to the official. "When they are able to share information and we, in turn, are able to share public details, we will do so."

But the event is sure to cause reassessments of strategies in the U.S. and Europe, both inside their countries and for how to deal with ISIS in the Middle East.

Control by ISIS of territory in Iraq and Syria versus the ability to project attacks outside of its base are, of course, separate issues. U.S. counterterrorism officials worried the latter would be the second phase the ISIS fight.

While ISIS was gaining and solidifying control of territory, external attacks weren't its priority. But the concern among counterterror officials was that once the U.S. and others began attacking to curb the territorial expansion, or even causing some retreat, ISIS would start sending back its legions of westerners or try to infiltrate fighters to conduct attacks. U.S. counterterrorism officials expected that Europe, particularly countries with big foreign-fighter numbers, would be first to feel this.

World leaders to convene

The battle against ISIS was already slated to occupy large portions of the agenda of the large meeting of global leaders in Turkey that Obama is set to attend. White House officials, speaking before the Paris attack, said Obama was eager to shore up the global coalition of nations that have joined to battle the group.

Now those discussions will assume an even greater urgency. Obama was originally planning to speak with French President Francois Hollande at the G20 gathering, but Hollande said Friday he was canceling his trip to Turkey.

That leaves other key players, including Obama, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and British Prime Minister David Cameron, to develop a response plan at the summit, being held at a resort on the Turkish Riviera. Leaders were already scheduled to meet for a working dinner focused on combating ISIS on Sunday, and Obama will meet with the leaders five major European allies Monday afternoon.

Obama will also encounter Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose recent efforts in Syria forced the administration to retool its strategy. While no formal meeting between the two men is planned, Obama's aides said there's ample opportunity for a talk.

The January attack by Islamic extremists against the French humor magazine Charlie Hebdo prompted a reckoning in Europe about the flow of foreign fighters onto the continent, and the pervasive appeal of Islamic extremism on disillusioned youth. At least one of the Charlie Hebdo attackers pledged allegiance to ISIS online, though none were known to be operating under direct orders from the group's leadership.

In the aftermath of the attacks, Obama convened a summit in Washington aimed at countering violent extremism. The gathering was long-delayed from the fall, and finally placed on the schedule as a response to the Paris violence.

Officials said at the time he wanted to collect knowledge on how best to identify and counter violent extremists in the U.S. and abroad -- but refused to identify Islamic extremism as the primary focus of the gathering.

"I don't quibble with labels. I think we all recognize that this is a particular problem that has roots in Muslim communities," Obama told CNN's Fareed Zakaria in a January interview. "But I think we do ourselves a disservice in this fight if we are not taking into account the fact that the overwhelming majority of Muslims reject this ideology."

Is ISIS moving into the realm of international terrorism?

Earlier in the year, Obama chaired a session of the United Nations Security Council meant to address the flow of foreign fighters coming from Syria, following up on the meeting during this year's general assembly by saying he wanted to focus on the origins of extremism.

But even with those efforts in place, Obama's aides admit there's no quick solution to the pervasive problems facing Europe and the United States.

"It is not about a single meeting or a single event," Obama's National Security Adviser Susan Rice said ahead of the President's trip to the G20. "These issues are hugely complex and fraught. If they weren't, they would have been resolved a long time ago."
