The State of the Union was an important speech, we had to listen and watch, it was ordered by the governors office.
We had
to share, it was the only way. How could
we survive if we went our own ways, everybody looking for us, every loose stone
being turned, looking. Buddy thought he
knew best because he had money. He liked
handing out money starting with 100 dollar bills for favors but if you walked
with him for ten minutes you knew he was afraid, some things money couldn't buy
and safety was on the list. Money was a
good thing if you have food and security but the current facts of the civil war
changed everything. This Barack Obama was different and he promised better food and cool water but his promises were lacking in results but, you couldn't say that out loud.
The
village set up some social rules, without laws we had to have something. People were doing everything to get what they
wanted, the police was removed by the new governor so we all wore the same
tattoo of the governor that indicated where we could walk, plant food or even
where we could stop and drink water. The
people that had been using drugs or alcohol were killed off in just a few
months. They were not allowed to farm
for food as they were removed from the pecking order. Competition was now illegal so the kids no
longer raced home from the farm schools or the wood shops. Your sexual mate would be selected for you by
the governor's office so dating was out, no movie houses or restaurants, no old
fashioned social gatherings that our grand-parents whispered about in their
living quarters.
The
young girls did the laundry and their heads were often left white due to using
lie soap while removing stains from clothing, the white uniforms had to remain
spotless at all times.
The
governor would be talking about the state of the union tonight so hundreds were
gathered at the screen under the porch.
The sky's were getting dark and the light bulb came on under the porch so we knew Barack Obama would appear on the screen. He would appear to be sixteen feet tall as the old drive in movie screen would assure. Talking down but, he was talking to us. He had kept us mostly safe so far, the insurgents islamic radical muslims had been killed off in the south but up here, they were everywhere.
He told us to praise Allah, not to mean it but, to remain safe, they were everywhere.
