“With this decision every single Senate Democrat has fled the fiscal battlefield at a time when their constituents face an exceptional danger. The debt is on track to hit $27 trillion by 2024. Annual interest payments on the debt will climb from $233 billion this year to $880 billion 10 years from now. The Congressional Budget Office says we are on an unsustainable path that leads to ‘fiscal crisis.’ Wages are flat or falling, the workforce is shrinking, the welfare rolls are surging. Today, the party running the Senate has openly declared to millions of struggling Americans: we will not discuss or debate any proposals on how to improve your financial situation. We will continue down this road of low wages, high unemployment, and surging debt. And we will take no steps to prevent a future any different than the last five years: a growing government, a shrinking middle class, and a prospering Washington elite.”
